For the occasion of Currents, a new design festival in Berlin, Pascal Hien and manufacturer Tecta present a preview of their upcoming Clubchair and Sofa collection - an extension of their ongoing conversation about open design for low energy consumption.

In today’s economy, investing in upfront tooling for new products has become a significant risk for companies. Rising energy and production costs are now key

considerations before launching a product. Pascal Hien and Tecta’s approach is to think simply and openly, using pure materials that can be adapted through low-cost production techniques without the need for major upfront tooling. Components can be replaced, repaired or recycled, and everything can be produced using standard machines, allowing for future modifications if needed.

The exhibition Erlkönig — Design in Process offers a rare insight into the development journey, presenting early prototypes alongside the decisions that shape

mass-produced furniture. This in-between stage, where the design remains open and subject to change, is made public, inviting for discussion and consideration. The exhibition explores material use, comfort and dimensions, pricing, and usability.
