"Break to Make" is an ongoing idea already explored in a vase called Split. This time in the form of a bookend, the concept is to involve the customer in the process of creating a functional object. The stone is carved to form a weak area in order to control the way it splits.
The object was designed for the book launch of "why materials matter" by Seetal Solanki and organized by Quei Studio in Berlin. The book discusses potential materials related solutions to the ecological, social and economical issues faced by humans today.
Crush puts focus on what it takes to make something and to value the materials we have. It is designed to involve the owner into the final making process.
